Searching for the perfect beach in Da Nang, Vietnam?
I’m here to help.
Whatever it is you’re looking for – action, adventure, tranquility – Da Nang’s coastline has something for you.
Over the past 6.5 years, Da Nang has become my go-to spot for spontaneous weekend beach getaways. From jet-skiing on the waves of My Khe Beach to relaxing on the sands of Non Nuoc Beach and uncovering the hidden beaches along the Son Tra Peninsula, I’ve done it all.
This guide aims to help you navigate through Da Nang’s best beaches, drawing on firsthand experiences and explorations. It’s designed to offer insights into each beach’s unique characteristics, and help you decide where you want to stay, and how you want to experience the beaches of Da Nang, Vietnam.
Best Time to Visit Da Nang Beaches
Planning to catch the best beach days in Da Nang?
Aim for March to September, Central Vietnam’s dry season window. During this stretch, expect the weather to be hot and humid, with temperatures averaging around 30 degrees Celsius.
This period is perfect for those looking to enjoy everything the beach has to offer, from sunbathing to swimming to water sports.
The month of March is when Da Nang is officially out of the rainy season, and the temperatures start to increase. The ocean water might still be a bit cold for swimming, but by April it won’t be! The months of June, July and August are hot in Danang. You definitely want to be near a beach in order to cool off!
In terms of time of day – mornings and late afternoons can get crowded. But in the middle of the day – when the sun is at its hottest, beaches are empty! This midday tranquility is so uniquely Vietnamese, and one of my favorite things about the beaches in Danang. During the heat of the day, the locals tend to retreat, leaving the shores practically deserted. Anytime between the hours of 9am-4pm, you will likely have the beach totally to yourself.
The early mornings and late afternoons are worth checking out the beach as well, just to see how the locals use the space!
The Da Nang Coastline

The coastline of Da Nang is basically 10 kilometers of beach that is mostly untouched. From the Son Tra Peninsula in the Northern part of the city, to the Marble Mountains in the Southern Part, you have lots of options.
It can be a little confusing to know where you are exactly. If you type My Khe Beach into Google Maps, it will show you that the whole coastline from the Son Tra Peninsula all the way to the Marble Mountains is My Khe Beach. This is technically true, but it is also split up into other subsets of beaches that have their own vibes.
Because of that I have created for you a….

My Khe Beach
Best For: Those Looking for a Beach Day with Action

My Khe Beach is the most famous beach in the city of Da Nang. Not just because it is a beautiful spot, but also as a historical backdrop in movies and TV shows.
You know this movie ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

The beach he calls China Beach, is actually My Khe Beach!
On top of that, My Khe has also gotten numerous travel accolades, such as being listed among the “Best Beaches in Vietnam” by Forbes Magazine.
For anyone’s first time in Da Nang, I always recommend My Khe Beach as the go-to spot. Here, palm trees create a boundary between the white sand and the busy road, offering pretty sweet views of the city skyline from the comfort of the beach. The area is filled with cafes and restaurants, so food and drinks aren’t an issue.
Safety is a priority (which always surprises me in Vietnam!), with designated swimming zones watched over by lifeguards. For those looking to ride the waves, surfboard rentals are available, though listen to the lifeguards’ advice since the waters can become challenging.
As the day turns into late afternoon and evening, My Khe Beach transforms into a lively hub of activity, hosting volleyball games and welcoming families, all coming together to enjoy the beach’s atmosphere.
For direct access to My Khe Beach, consider staying at the Sala Danang Beach Resort.
- On the main beach road with direct views of the ocean
- Affordable 4 Star Hotel

My An Beach
Best For: Those Looking for a Relaxing Beach Day Still Close to the City Center

Right next to the famous My Khe Beach lies My An Beach. Unless you are in the know, it is impossible to know when My Khe Beach finishes and My An Beach starts.
Just like My Khe Beach, My An has plenty of palm trees, offering shade for those looking to escape the sun’s intensity. Along the beachside, restaurants and water sports shops dot the landscape, providing everything from beers to meals to activities.
However, you should note that My An Beach is known for having the roughest part of the ocean in the area, adding an extra level of excitement for water sports. I often see red flags up at My An Beach indicating a no swim zone.
While it may offer fewer services compared to its neighbor My Khe Beach, My An compensates with its “resort beach” vibe, with lots of hotels and resorts along its shores. The beach can get quite crowded, especially in the late afternoon and early mornings, when locals fill the beach.
If you are following my Da Nang Itinerary for 3 Days, I have you heading to My An Beach on Day 1. This is my go-to spot because it is directly across from the An Thuong neighborhood, which has lots of restaurants, cafes and coffee shops that I like to frequent.
I like renting a chair for 50,000VND and just lounging. The ladies who rent the chairs will bring you fresh coconuts and beers, and you can even order Grab food delivery straight to your chair!
Looking for a My An Beach Hotel? Check out the HAIAN Beach Hotel
- Located on the beach road
- Full apartments/suites with good amenities
- Small rooftop pool

Non Nuoc Beach
Best For: Those Looking for a Tranquil and Exclusive Beach with Amenities

Non Nuoc Beach is known for its clear blue waters and expansive stretches of white sandy beaches that manage to remain uncrowded. Non Nuoc Beach is the stretch of beach between Danang and Hoi An.
While there are a few public access spots for those looking to explore, much of this stretch is reserved for the guests of private hotels and luxury resorts that line the coast here. It ensures an exclusive and tranquil beach experience.
The waters here are noticeably calmer compared to other areas, making it a sweet spot for swimming and enjoying the ocean without the concern of rough waves.
The only times I find myself on Non Nuoc Beach are when I am staying at one of the hotels along this stretch of beach. My favorite hotel is the Danang Marriott. It’s got an awesome private beach and so much room to walk.
Pham Van Dong Beach
Best For: Those Looking for a Family Friendly Beach Spot

Pham Van Dong Beach is the best spot along the coast for families. It has the calmest waters among all the local beaches, and provides a safe environment ideal for both adults and children.
This beach is a long stretch of white sand with shallow waters, making it perfect for young swimmers or those who simply wish to wade and enjoy the calm waves. A designated swimming area ensures safety for all visitors, further cementing its status as a family-friendly destination.
It is the the first beach between the Son Tra Peninsula and the city, in the northernmost section of the coast.
I have only ever looked at this beach from my hotel room at the Four Points by Sheraton. I tend to avoid places where children congregate, so I never actually made it down to this stretch of beach! That being said, my friends with kids who live in the city said they would often pop over to this beach as a family.
Tien Sa Beach
Best For: Those Looking for a Beach with Secluded Natural Beauty

Located on the Son Tra Peninsula, Tien Sa Beach is hidden within a small cove. It’s a nice little escape from some of the busier beaches closer to the city center. Its location, farther from the city center, contributes to its quiet and untouched atmosphere, making it the perfect spot for those looking to unwind in peace.
Access to this beach costs 10,000 VND. The clear waters and scenic surroundings make it an ideal setting for relaxation. Though be prepared, Vietnamese families like to come here in the early evenings for big, loud picnics!
This is a great beach to come to if you want to watch the sunset.
Wondering where to stay near Tien Sa Beach?
There aren’t a ton of hotels on the Son Tra Peninsula (besides the Intercontinental DaNang which I 10/10 recommend you should stay at). My suggestion would be to pick any hotel in DaNang and just drive or get a Grab to this beach.
Nam O Beach
Best for: Those Looking for a Local Beach Experience

Nam O Beach offers a different experience compared to the typical beach visit. The beach itself is part of a larger community of local people known for their traditional fish sauce making.
This isn’t your go-to destination for sunbathing or lounging by the sea; instead, you will find yourself immersed in the local culture and environment. The beach is rocky and empty, with a much more wild feel. My guess is that in a few years time as Da Nang develops, it will be built up.
Exploring Nam O Beach will give you a chance to see local life and learn about the process of creating Vietnam’s famous fish sauce.
Lang Co Beach aka Banana Beach
Best For: Those who want to Explore a Beach Beyond Da Nang

Lang Co Beach, affectionately known as Banana Beach, is the farthest from Da Nang, but an excellent stop on a Hai Van Pass Drive.
This is a long stretch of beach in a crescent shape, hence the name ‘Banana Beach’. It is best to hit up this beach if you are driving from Da nang to Hue (or vice versa).
It is part of a bigger fishing village, so you will see fishermen with their boats and baskets out on the beach. There is also a lagoon on the other side of the main road that could be worth an exploration.
The beach is 10 kilometers long of fine white sand, and varies in amenities and cleanliness depending on where you are. The area at the southern end of the beach near the Lang Co Beach Resort is the cleanest stretch with beach chairs you can rent.
I wouldn’t say it is worth it to go out of your way to check out this beach, unless you are already on the road heading into or out of Da Nang.
Xuan Thieu Beach aka Red Beach
Best For: Lively Local Beach Scene
Xuan Thieu Beach, also known as Red Beach, holds a significant place in history, having served as a US military storage area during the Vietnam War. Its name, “Red Beach,” comes from the colors of the rising and setting sun, which cast a reddish glow over its sands.
It is in the north of Da Nang, quite close to Nam O Beach. It is popular with locals, particularly in the late afternoon/early evening. There are lifeguards in the center areas of the beach, and restaurants and cafes that line the street nearby. The beach is near a waterpark, so could potentially be a stop after a waterpark trip.
Beyond its historical context, this beach has views of the Son Tra Peninsula and Hai Van Mountain.
Xoan Beach & Sung Co Beach
Best for: Adventure Seekers

These are secluded beaches that not just hidden, but require a bit of adventure to reach. You will need to go on a trek through the dense jungle and down the mountain to get to them. Once there, you will find yourself in an untouched paradise, with no services available. Seriously getting to enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility.
Swimming here is at your own risk as there are no services or amenities or lifeguards. The tranquility, combined with the beach’s beauty and emptiness, makes it a perfect escape for those seeking peace and solitude (with a bit of adventure)
Located about 28km from the center of Da Nang, these beaches are best visited while driving the Hai Van Pass. I have never actually made the trek down to them – though I’ve thought about it! It is about 45 or so minutes to get down, and another 1 hour up, depending on your fitness levels (and how lost you get). It is possible to camp on the beach if that interests you – check out this article.
There are no hotels to stay at on or near these beaches, but this article in the Vietnam Times describes some campsites in the area you may want to check out.
Intercontinental Da Nang Beach
Best for: Exclusive Luxury

I have to mention the Intercontinental Da Nang Beach because it truly is awesome.
Access to this spot is exclusive; you either need to be a guest at the Intercontinental or opt for a day pass to enjoy it (day passes only available Monday – Thursday).
What sets this beach apart is its unique location in a cove, flanked by two mountains that shield it from the wind, ensuring the water remains exceptionally calm.
Here, the sea takes on a deeper shade of blue, and the sand appears whiter than anywhere else in Da Nang. Perhaps that is just in my head, or it’s a testament to the meticulous care the Intercontinental staff put into maintaining its pristine condition. They are often seen raking and cleaning the sand all day.
Stretching over just 700 meters, this beach may be small, but its atmosphere and stunning natural features make it a must-visit destination.
If you need to be convinced as to why a stay at the Intercontinental DaNang Sun Peninsula Resort is worth the splurge, read about my experience at the hotel.
Final Thoughts: DaNang Beaches
I hope after reading this you are getting a good idea on which beaches you want to add to your Da Nang Itinerary.
This coastal city has captured the hearts of so many travelers, myself included. Da Nang’s beaches are not just accessible; they’re beautiful and calm and busy and are very much Vietnam. Living in Vietnam and having Da Nang as a quick getaway spot has allowed me to explore these beaches in depth. I hope my insider knowledge helps you plan your best Vietnam Vacation.
Only have time to check out one beach on your trip to Da Nang?
Head to My Khe or My An. They are super close to each other and super close to the center of the city. You can literally go from your hotel to the beach to lunch and back in no time.

Yes. Any kind of bathing suit for women is totally fine.
What should I be aware of as a female traveler regarding beach etiquette in Vietnam?
Da Nang is a city on the ocean, and has a pretty liberal view in terms of beach etiquette. It is totally fine to walk up and down the beach in a bathing suit. It is even fine to sit at beach bars and restaurants in a bathing suit. I would put on a cover up if you head into the city away from the beach
Also be aware that it is common to see locals swimming in clothing that covers more skin, such as T-shirts and shorts. This is mostly because they are protecting themselves from the sun. However, it does sometimes feel awkward when you are the only one wearing a bathing suit.
What’s the best time of year to visit the beaches in Da Nang?
The ideal time to visit Da Nang’s beaches is from March to September, during the dry season. This is when the weather is warm and sunny with very few rain days.
Do I have to pay to get on the beaches in Da Nang?
Most beaches in Da Nang are free to enter, but some private beaches or specific areas might charge an entry fee or require a day pass, especially those associated with resorts.
Can I rent beach equipment in Da Nang?
Yes. Many beaches offer rentals for beach chairs, umbrellas, and water sports equipment like jet skis and paddle boards. My Khe, My An and Nuoc Non are the ones that will have chairs and umbrellas to rent.
Are the beaches in Da Nang safe for swimming?
Many beaches in Da Nang have designated swimming areas that are safe and monitored by lifeguards. However, always pay attention to local warnings and weather conditions, as some areas can have strong currents.
Do Da Nang beaches have food and drink options nearby?
