As someone who’s called Vietnam home since 2017, I’ve had my fair share of Da Nang adventures – over 25 visits to this beach city in central Vietnam.
I have hopped from one hotel to another throughout the city. I’ve lounged in the lavishness of 5-star resorts – hello Intercontinental Da Nang – and found beachside and city center hotels that didn’t break the bank.

WHAT IS THE BEST AREA TO STAY IN DA NANG?

When deciding on the best place to stay in Da Nang, it really boils down to what you’re looking to get out of your trip.
Da Nang is a tale of two settings: the Beach Side and the City Side.
If your idea of a perfect getaway involves sun, sand, and Vietnam’s coastline, the beach side is your go-to. On the flip side, the City Center offers a completely different vibe. It’s the heartbeat of Da Nang, filled with markets, local eateries, and cultural landmarks. This area is perfect for those who want to dive into the city’s urban life.
Whether you’re in Da Nang to chill on the beach or immerse yourself in the city’s movement of everyday life, both parts of the city have all ranges of hotels: From budget hostels to luxury resorts.
MAP OF DANANG
You can see from the map above that the beach side of Da Nang is broken up into a few different parts: My Khe, My An, Son Tran Peninsula, and Nuoc Non. The City Center is basically the area between the airport and the Han River.
Here is the deal with Da Nang – no matter where you stay, it is easy to get around. Even the farthest locations to the north and south are just a 15-20 minute taxi ride to the center of the city. The airport is at most 20 minutes from any hotel in Da Nang.
WHY TRUST ME?
Why should you trust me when it comes to choosing where to stay in Da Nang?
Since 2017, Vietnam has been my home and a place of endless exploration, especially Da Nang and its neighbor, Hoi An.
Living in Hanoi, I’m just a short, 3-hour hop away from Da Nang – yes, that includes door-to-door, assuming the flights are on time.
I zip down to Da Nang for pretty much any reason I can – including getting my eyebrows done 😂.
True Story: The girl who does my eyebrows moved to Da Nang in 2022, and I just didn’t want to part ways with her, so now I use it as an excuse to hop down there every few months. (If you want her contact info, shoot me a message as she is amazing!).
I’ve experienced all of the different styles of hotels, and have stayed in every neighborhood of Da Nang. I’ve stayed in over 15 different hotels across the city, each with its own flavor and flair. From the extravagant to the economically savvy, I’ve seen (and slept in) them all.
Considerations for Female Travelers

Vietnam as a whole is very safe for female travelers, whether solo or not. I have traveled to Da Nang alone, with female friends, male friends, groups of friends, you name it. No matter who I am with (or not with), I have never once felt unsafe in Da Nang.
That being said, if you are a solo female traveler, or a duo or group of women traveling together, there are a few things to think about when choosing the best places to stay in Da Nang:
- Well-Lit and Busy Areas: Most tourist spots, especially around the city center and popular beaches, are well-lit and busy, adding an extra layer of safety.
- Reliable Transportation: With options like Grab (the local Uber), getting around is easy and safe. Plus, most drivers are super helpful and friendly.
- Traveler-Friendly: Da Nang is accustomed to international visitors, so you’ll find plenty of amenities catered to your needs.
- Hotels with Security: Most hotels have some form of security. Many have a security guard that sleeps in or near the lobby. Others have full security details or gates with access only to guests. The more internationally known hotels have higher levels of security.
- Respectful Culture: Respect towards travelers, including women, is a cornerstone of Vietnamese culture.
- Friendly Locals: The people in Da Nang are known for their warmth and hospitality. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself making local friends!
That said, the usual travel wisdom applies: stay aware of your surroundings, avoid less crowded places at night, and keep your belongings secure.
Da Nang City Center/Downtown Area
The area between the Han River and the Da Nang airport lies Da Nang’s City Center, a business district that is your typical city filled with Vietnamese everyday life. This neighborhood, along the riverbanks, has views of the city’s skyline and Dragon Bridge.

There are a couple of areas that make up the City Center:
- Bach Dang → This is the neighborhood along the river on the western side of the city (the airport side). It’s a super chill area with cafes and bars that get lit up at night. The Han Market and Dragon Bridge are in this area.
- Hai Chua → This is the business and commercial center of the city. This is where the main shopping centers are, as well as administrative offices. It is easily walkable to temples and churches.
- Than Khe → This is west of Hai Chua, and along the bay. The most local of Da Nang neighborhoods as it is quite residential.
Who Should Stay Here?
If being centrally located tops your list, the City Center is your spot. If sticking to a lower budget is your ultimate goal, this neighborhood is for you (though there are plenty of budget friendly options on the Beach Side).
CITY CENTER PROS
CITY CENTER CONS
This area is Da Nang: energetic, diverse, and full of life. It’s ideal for those who want to dive deep into the city’s heart and experience Da Nang as the locals do.
Considerations for Female Travelers

- Accessibility: Being centrally located, it’s easy to navigate to various parts of the city. Public transport is readily available, and many attractions are within walking distance.

- Amenities: You’ll have easy access to numerous restaurants, cafes, and shops, ensuring that whatever you need is nearby.

My Khe Beach Area

Located just a few kilometers from the city center, the My Khe Beach Area offers a nice spot next to the ocean. It technically spans from the Son Tra Peninsula to the Marble Mountains, but is broken up into different beach sections (My An, Non Nuoc, Son Tra) which I will highlight below.
The main highlight here is undoubtedly the beach. My Khe Beach has soft sand and clear waters, perfect for beach activities or simply unwinding by the sea. It has been recognized in tons of awards:

New York Times: “52 Places to Go in 2019”

My Khe beach is busy! Much busier than An Bang Beach in Hoi An (if you have been there). However, it is busiest during the early morning and late afternoons. During the heat of the day – from 10am – 4pm – the beach is basically empty!
Who Should Stay Here
If it’s your first visit to Da Nang, My Khe Beach Area is an excellent starting point to experience the city’s blend of natural beauty and urban life. It is ideal for those wanting a stay where the beach is just a short walk away, and the city center is easy to get to.

My An Beach Area

Located just south of My Khe, the My An Beach Area (while technically part of My Khe Beach) stands out as a distinct section, popular among the expat community.
Who Should Stay Here
Those planning a longer stay in Da Nang will find My An Beach Area accommodating, especially for settling into a semi-permanent routine. It’s a great choice for those who prefer being surrounded by more Western amenities.

Son Tra Peninsula Area

The Son Tra Peninsula Area marks the northern end of Da Nang, offering a location that’s farther from the city center. This area is great for those seeking seclusion and nature.
It is a protected nature reserve, so there are very few hotels and it is less crowded than other parts of the city. When you are in other parts of the city, you can see the Ling Ung Pagoda standing tall at the end of the peninsula.
Who Should Stay Here?
The Son Tra Peninsula Area is perfect for those in search of a quieter, more relaxed stay. If you’re looking for an exclusive and luxurious experience, this area offers some of the most premium accommodations in Da Nang.
